I know it seems like forever and an age that we’ve all been pressing “replay” on her YouTube videos, but yesterday her debut single Video Games finally went on sale. If you’ve not listened to her yet, drop everything and press play: for once, the hype is justified.

We’ve still got months until her album hits stores on January 23rd, but until then we can continue maxing out on Blue Jeans, Diet Mountain Dew, Kinda Outta Luck and of course that wonderfully sublime Video Games. Before trundling to the West Country for a couple of days at Glasto, I was merrily working my way through the week…sorry, did I say merrily? I meant frantically. Catching up on freelance and a few other projects, plus packing for Glasto and, you know, actually working, meant I had limited time for fun — though I did manage one hilarious night of pizza and booze with a certain Ms. Laura Smith on Monday night, which resulted in a few half-sozzled sketches of her as a pizza. And her fishtank populated with canned tuna. Guess you probably had to be there :(

Anyway, I’ll bring you more vignettes of my time at Europe’s largest festival later in the week (once I’ve got my four rolls developed), as it’s time to shove another load of mud-soaked clothes into the washing machine. Oh, the fun never ends ’round these parts…

Only clowns consider Sunday the start of the week. When Monday rolls ’round I’m always determined that this fresh week will bring a wave of change. After a few miserable weeks of feeling in a rut, this week will be different — starting with Jim returning from a long weekend of sailing, and a Belle & Sebastian gig at the Roundhouse tonight.

It might be a bit of a cliche now, but The Boy With the Arab Strap was always my favourite song by them; it’s just impossible not to feel cheery when listening to it.

…this DJ might just be my kindred spirit.
