About

Professionally, Kat Hannaford is…

…The UK Contributing Editor of Gizmodo, which gets 140m page views each month on average. Prior to Gizmodo, she was News Editor at T3.com, and Editor of Tech Digest.

She is often quoted by newspapers including The Telegraph, The Guardian, The Independent, and the Evening Standard, and appears regularly on Sky News, BBC News and various radio stations as a “technology expert”.

BlackBerry asked her to help judge its Innovation Awards 2009; T3 relied on her to judge its T3 Gadget Awards 2009, and TechRadar recruited her knowledge of tech for its inaugural TechRadar Awards 2010.

Whilst at T3, she started a well-respected and highly-publicised annual feature for both the magazine and online, celebrating the most influential people in the technology industry – the T3 Tech 100. 2008 saw it named the Power 50, with 2009 debuting its current format, the Tech 100.

After hours, Kat Hannaford is…

…Living in South London with her fiancĂ© Jim (July 10th 2010, Longleat Orangery; yes she’s excited, no she hasn’t got everything organised yet), and Effie-cat. Originating from Western Australia, she moved to London in August 2004 on a gap year adventure…but never made it back, nor to university.

When she’s not trawling her RSS or Twitter, Kat enjoys photography (both digital and film – she’s a Lomo-ite); baking, being crafty (knitting, embroidery, crochet, sewing), and travelling.

So far, she’s visited 31 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States and the Vatican City. This year, she’s managing to tick off Portugal in April and either Vietnam or Mauritius in July. Or maybe Cambodia. Yes, the honeymoon still hasn’t been organised yet.

    Dear Kat,

Big big fan of all your articles and various adventures. It’s always nice to read something from the home perspective, technology blogs can be a little US-centric at times.

I’m an A Level student currently, I’d really like to get into journalism and especially technology journalism. Pointers would be much appreciated, but I guess it’ll be a process of weasling and freelance bits like most journalistic fields.

Anyhoodle, always nice to read an article of yours, all the best,

    Oliver
