About

Professionally, Kat Hannaford is…

…The editor of Gizmodo UK, which she launched in conjunction with Future Publishing and Gawker Media. Prior to heading up the UK arm, she worked on the US Gizmodo as their UK Contributing Editor from December 2009 – August 2011. Prior to that she was News Editor at T3.com from June 2008 to November 2009, and before that she was the Editor of flagship title Tech Digest and various other Shiny Media sites, from April 2005.

In her free time, she has freelanced for The Telegraph; TechRadar; Total Film magazine and Orange magazine amongst others, and even baked hard-tack biscuits spelling out WIRED UK’s logo for their colophon page.

She is often quoted by newspapers including The Telegraph; The Guardian; The New York Times; The Independent, and the Evening Standard, and appears regularly on Sky News; BBC News and various radio stations as a “technology expert.”

BlackBerry asked her to help judge its Innovation Awards 2009; T3 relied on her to judge its T3 Gadget Awards 2009, and TechRadar recruited her knowledge of tech for its inaugural TechRadar Awards 2010, and the follow-up awards in 2011.

Whilst at T3, she started a well-respected and highly-publicised annual feature for both the magazine and online, celebrating the most influential people in the technology industry – the T3 Tech 100. 2008 saw it named the Power 50, with 2009 debuting its current format, the Tech 100.

    Dear Kat,

Big big fan of all your articles and various adventures. It’s always nice to read something from the home perspective, technology blogs can be a little US-centric at times.

I’m an A Level student currently, I’d really like to get into journalism and especially technology journalism. Pointers would be much appreciated, but I guess it’ll be a process of weasling and freelance bits like most journalistic fields.

Anyhoodle, always nice to read an article of yours, all the best,

    Oliver
