It all began when Kate and I signed up for an LC-A+ workshop at the Lomography UK store. My first Lomo camera was a Diana F+ a couple years back; my second a Diana Mini that I got last year. I’d seen some of the amazing results the LC-A+ produced from following GolfPunkGirl (Liana, to store customers and workshop attendees) on Flickr, but thought £230 was too much for what’s essentially a toy camera.
After wandering around Soho in that summer’s evening with Kate, trying out the LC-A+ on views such as the beautiful Liberty building and Kingly Court (see my photos from that day here, and Kate’s here), I was hooked. I desperately wanted one! It wasn’t just a toy camera after all! But oh, the price…
That’s when my American editor and friend Jason stepped in, offering to buy it for me and ship it over. I ended up saving a good amount of money, which just makes the camera even sweeter.
It arrived last night, and what an honour it was, unboxing a new gadget for fun (as opposed to the countless work-related unboxings I’ve done over the years). The packaging was fun, retro, and had such attention to detail — I couldn’t believe how many little extras it came with, from two rolls of film to a massive book on Lomography. I’ll treasure it forever. Until it breaks, or I lose it, anyway.
It’s reassuring I can still get excited by gadgets, despite riding the merry-go-round of tech blogging.
